Horror and Actors and Scares, oh my!

Glasgow already has an incredible Escape Room scene, with a mix of chain companies and indie powerhouses. So what are we doing differently? How are Nomad Escape trying to stand out amongst the other Escape Rooms in Glasgow?

By bringing something no one else has. Two words…

Live. Actors.

Yup. Of the 5 games that we are going to build, we plan on having 2 or 3 run with live action elements, turning them into part Escape Room, part immersive experience.

During the week, all 5 games will run as standard Escape Rooms. But on the weekend, the Gamemasters will be joined by actors, ready to elevate and intensify the game. So whatever your desire, you can find it in the basement of Merchant Square.

Nomad Escape games that include actors will be similar from a game theory perspective, but players have alternative ways to solve certain puzzles, and the game may have a different ending.

In “The Jail”

You are under observation by a guard. Can you solve the puzzles without them suspecting you are trying to escape? Maybe you have to bribe them, or just chat?

Legit, here are some of the ways people have distracted the guard:

  • Asking them about their favourite book
  • Pretending to sleep
  • Yoga
  • “Forgetting” how to count and asking them to count the number of pushups they can do

While we encourage players to interact with the guard for the role-playing element, this will not be the case in Haunted Circus. In there, the mission is clear. If you hear Riddles the clown coming… hide.

As creators, we know the game inside out, so doing our run-throughs with the actor was initially about trying to understand the flow of the game from a customer perspective. But honestly, I got so stressed in there, I forgot how to do puzzles I wrote and knew the answer to.

I won’t say too much about that, but it’s something else! So if you are looking for a real experience, then make sure you book an actor-led game on the weekend when thinking about things to do in Glasgow.

Until next time, keep puzzling!
